The reason that the soldiers came to our school was to commemorate the 1916 Rising and next year will be the 100th anniversary of it.
We invited all the parents and were so happy that many of them could attend. Some soldiers came to present the flag to our school. Before the soldiers presented the flag to us one of the 6th class pupils, Emma,read an extract from the Proclamation. Later we learned about the soldiers and what they do. Next we sang the National Anthem and played an Irish piece on the recorder.
The flag was presented to our eldest and youngest pupils. We were informed about how to take care of the flag. Then we all waved goodbye. We were asked told to raise the flag on 15th of March 2016 with all the national schools in Ireland.
