Excitement was building in the school today as we prepared to go on a walk to the Bog Garden to see Rescue 115, the Shannon based rescue helicopter. Once we arrived we waited patiently in excitement for the helicopter to arrive. A smoke flare was lit to indicate the direction of the wind for the helicopter to land safely. After a few minutes we heard the thumping of the rotor blades. At last the helicopter appeared over the horizon. We all started searching the sky line for the first glimpse of the helicopter. The helicopter circled around twice to get lower to the ground to land. Once the helicopter had landed we were all able to gather around it and the winch operators and pilots demonstrated some of the rescue equipment to us and answered some questions that we had. For me, the highlight of the day was watching the winch man get winched up into the helicopter before they flew away.
