On Wednesday 9th October we visited the village park in Adare with biodiversity expert Geoff Hunt. Geoff spoke to us about some of the plants growing close to the stream before telling us about what wildlife we could expect to see living in the stream. Fishing nets soon came out and the pupils began wading through the stream collecting wildlife. We discovered eels, freshwater shrimp, a leech, water boatmen, a frog, minnow and stickleback to mention just a few.
On returning to our classrooms, Geoff discussed what we found with us and showed us some of the creatures up close and personal using his microscope. Needless to say no creatures were harmed by us and all were safely returned to the stream afterwards.
